Club Business Meeting – June 10, 2018

IHCC 41 Business Meeting, June 10, 2018
The meeting was called to order by Tinker Moats.
The Treasurer’s Report was given: $4002.55 is the current balance. The ads for the Summer
Show still need to be paid.
The Minutes from the April Meeting were read by Tinker. Tinker reported that the Summer
Show was paid for, the Relay for Life Team had $2000.00, and the April 28,2018 Garden
Workshop was held. A motion was made by Jerry McDonald to accept the minutes. It was
seconded by Bill Shaver. The motion was approved.
Old Business: Tyrone and Bobby will get the Plaque from Dick Forster at Red Power listing the
donors for the Trust for the McCormick Farm.
New Business: The Club was asked if they would be interested in doing the food for the
Puffenbarger Auction on August 11, 2018. A motion was made by Ron Knicely to do the food.
It was seconded by Bill Shaver. The motion carried. Cynthia Shaver will coordinate. Becky
Seal and Sherri Carr said they would help. If you would like to make cookies or brownies for the
sale, call Cynthia Shaver at 540-433-3624.
There is a Cub Cadet in Pennsylvania that can be purchased for parts for $50.00. A motion was
made by Tyrone Scott to purchase the Cub. It was seconded by Mark. The motion carried.
On Saturday, June 30, 2018, there will be a benefit in Shenandoah, for Taylor Shifflett who was
badly injured in a car accident.
Show Reports: Tyrone has been talking to vendors.
Bill will be doing Senior Shuttle and outside display.
David is handling inside vendors.
The music will be at 6:30 on Friday evening.
Camping is available for $40.00 per night by the Fairgrounds.
Need Barrel Train Drivers.
Relay for Life made $7500.00. The Team was eighth out of 90 teams.
Next meeting will be August 12, 2018, at Bridgewater Park. PICNIC: Bring a dish. Hamburgers
and hot dogs furnished.

Old ​ ​Business:​ ​​ Tinker​ ​ reported​ ​ ​that​ ​the​ ​Pedal​ ​Pull ​ at​ ​ ​Luray​ ​was ​ a​ ​ big​ ​ success.​ ​ All​ ​ of​ ​ the​ ​ kids​ had​ ​a​ ​good​ ​time. ​ ​​ ​Luray​ gave​ ​ ​the​ ​club​ $300.00​ ​ ​for​ ​doing​ the​ ​ ​pull.​ ​​ ​After​ ​discussion​ ​the​ ​club decided ​ ​to​ ​add ​ a​ ​ ​Pedal ​ Pull​ ​ as​ ​ ​one​ ​of​ ​our​ functions​ ​ ​at​ Somerset​ ​ ​next​ ​year.​ ​It ​ ​would ​ ​be​ ​on Saturday, ​ September​ ​ 18,​ ​ ​2018. Tyrone ​ ​said​ ​the ​ Pastor​ ​ ​of​ ​Crosskeys ​ ​Worship ​ ​Center​ ​would ​ ​do​ ​the ​ ​church​ ​service​ ​for​ our​ Summer​ ​Show ​ ​of​ ​2018. Steve ​ ​Kegley ​ ​has ​ ​said​ ​he​ ​will ​ ​be​ ​the​ ​Show​ ​Chairman​ ​for​ our​ ​ ​Summer​ ​Show.​ ​​ ​All​ ​committees​ will​ report ​ to​ ​ him.​ The ​ ​Pedal​ ​Pull ​ Shirts​ ​ for​ ​ ​the​ ​members ​ organizing​ ​ ​and ​ ​running​ the​ ​ ​Pedal​ ​Pulls​ at​ ​ ​our ​ functions​ have ​ been​ ​ ​ordered. There ​ ​was​ ​discussion ​ ​about ​ the​ ​ ​plaques​ ​for​ the​ ​ ​2018​ ​Summer​ Show.​ ​ ​​ ​The​ ​D6​ and​ ​ DD6​ ​ ​had originally ​ ​been​ ​approved ​ ​for ​ ​the ​ ​2017 ​ ​show.​ ​​ ​As​ ​the ​ club​ ​ was​ ​ featuring​ ​ ​the​ ​tractor ​ ​from​ the​ McCormick​ Farm​ ​ ​for​ ​the​ ​2017​ ​Show,​ ​it​ ​was​ decided​ ​ to​ ​ ​feature​ ​that​ ​tractor​ ​on​ ​the​ ​plaque​ for​ 2017.​ After​ ​ ​discussion​ ​a​ ​motion​ ​was​ ​made ​ to​ ​ ​put ​ the​ ​ ​D6 ​ and​ ​ ​the​ ​DD6​ on​ ​ the​ ​ plaque​ ​ for​ ​ ​the 2018 ​ Summer​ ​ ​Show.​ ​​ It​ ​ was​ ​ seconded​ ​ ​and​ ​approved. A​ ​letter​ from​ ​ ​the​ ​Trustees​ ​of​ ​the​ ​IHC ​ ​Charitable ​ ​Trust​ ​was​ ​read​ ​by​ ​Cynthia​ ​Shaver ​ thanking​ ​ ​us for ​ our​ ​ donation​ ​ ​to ​ ​the ​ Trust​ ​ ​and​ ​the​ ​appreciation​ ​of ​ our​ ​ ​Chapter​ ​Members ​ for​ ​ supporting​ ​ “this​ worthwhile ​ ​display ​ of​ ​ our​ ​ ​IHC​ heritage”.​ A​ ​letter​ was​ ​ ​read​ ​from​ David​ ​ Friske,​ ​ ​Superintendent​ ​of​ ​Virginia​ ​Tech ​ ​McCormick ​ Farm,​ ​ ​thanking us​ ​for​ ​the​ ​participation​ ​and ​ help​ ​ ​in​ the​ ​ ​2017 ​ ​McCormick​ ​Farm​ ​Mill ​ Day​ ​ and​ ​ inviting​ ​ ​us​ to​ participate​ ​in​ 13th​ ​ ​Annual​ McCormick​ ​ ​Farm ​ Mill​ ​ Day​ ​ scheduled​ ​ for​ ​ ​Saturday,​ ​October ​ ​6,​ ​2018. Tinker​ reported​ ​ ​that​ ​more​ ​money​ ​than​ ​actually ​ ​needed ​ ​for​ ​the​ ​new​ ​display​ ​case​ ​at ​ ​the McCormick​ ​Farm​ ​had​ ​been ​ ​donated​ ​to​ ​the​ Trust.​

New ​ ​Business: ​ ​​ Tinker​ ​ is​ ​ making​ ​ ​an​ ​order​ ​for​ ​items ​ to​ ​ be​ ​ sold​ ​ ​at​ the​ ​ ​functions​ ​our​ Chapter​ participates ​ in.​ The ​ ​club ​ has​ ​ been​ ​ ​using​ ​an​ ​IH​ ​flag,​ ​displayed ​ on​ ​ our​ ​ ​trailer,​ at​ ​ our​ ​ ​functions​ ​that ​ ​belongs ​ to​ Tinker.​ ​​ A​ ​ motion​ ​ was​ ​ made​ ​ ​for​ ​the​ ​club​ to​ ​ ​purchase​ a​ ​ flag.​ ​ ​​ ​It​ ​was​ seconded​ ​ and​ ​ approved.​ There ​ was​ ​ discussion​ ​ about​ ​ the​ ​ ​food​ ​for​ ​the​ ​Summer ​ ​Show.​ ​​ ​The​ ​club​ decided​ ​ to​ ​ ask​ ​ the​ ​ Clover​ Hill​ ​Ruritan​ ​Club​ ​to​ ​provide​ ​the​ ​food​ ​for​ our​ ​ ​Show.​ ​​ ​Tinker​ ​said​ ​he​ would​ ​ ask​ ​ ​them ​ ​about providing​ ​food ​ for​ ​ Sunday.​ ​ ​​ ​A ​ motion​ ​ ​was​ ​made ​ ​to​ ask​ ​ ​Clover​ ​Hill ​ ​Ruritan ​ Club​ ​ ​to​ ​provide​ ​the food​ ​. ​ ​​ ​It​ was​ ​ seconded​ ​ ​and ​ ​approved. Business Meeting – April 8,2017

The meeting was called to order by Steve Kegley.

The minutes from the February Meeting were read. A correction on the date for Relay for Life at
the Rockingham County Fairgrounds was noted. The date should have been May 5, 2017,
instead of May 6, 2017. A motion was made to accept the minutes with the correction. It was
seconded and approved.
The Treasurer’s Report was given. There is $3200.35 in the account. It was noted that the
sandwich fundraiser netted approximately $2100.00. That will make the account approximately
$5300.00 after the deposit of the fundraiser money. A motion was made to accept the report. It
was seconded and approved.
Relay for Life Report— Becky said there was $4000.00 in the Relay Account. Donations of
items or money could still be made until April 10, 2017.
The club has an IH Spinner that can be donated for the Relay for Life Auction. A motion was
made by Winona Scott to donate the spinner. It was seconded by Bobby Menefee. The motion
Steve reminded everyone that the Plow Day had been rescheduled for April 15, 2017 because
of rain.
Winona had a planter that she was donating to Relay for Life. It contained greenery, welcome
flag and miniature lawn items. She said she could do another one for anyone that wanted one
for $25.00. The money would be donated to Relay for Life.
2017 Summer Show
Steve Kegley gave an update on the McCormick Farm. He read the email from Dick Forster to
Bob Buxton – National President. It contained information about the Farm and ways that the
“club or trust could assist in preserving the historical nature of the farmstead and shops through
either direct participation or financial assistance”.
Projects – “Model Cabinet Project”
This project was about getting a grant proposal from Chapter 41 and VT for a preliminary
design or blueprints for replacement of the case that contains 14 miniature models of reapers.
This case is well over 100 years old and cannot be cleaned without disassembly.
The Docent Proposal
Help is needed to have people trained to explain about the Farm and its exhibits. Tinker
suggested that club members, especially some from Chapter 41 might be available to assist in
this program. The busy time for tours of the Farm are in October and November. There would
be a period of instruction for members to become knowledgeable about the McCormick family,
the farmstead and the early development of the reaper.
There will be a ceremony at the Summer Show to present the the McCormick Farm an honorary
membership in International Harvesters Collectors, Inc.. This is the first time an honorary
membership has been given and the by-laws of IHC,Inc. had to be changed for this to happen.
Bob Buxton, President of the National IHC along with Tinker will be presenting a plaque to the
McCormick Farm at 4:30 P.M. on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
There was discussion about a project called “The Farm Museum in the Shenandoah Valley”. A
non-profit corporation has been formed to create an an antique farm equipment museum along
with other period antiques. This museum wants to preserve agriculture and agricultural heritage
of the “Shenandoah Valley and the Commonwealth of Virginia”. It would be used for
educational purposes. At this time the corporation is looking for funding to construct a facility
between fifteen and twenty thousand feet. As a chapter, if we donated, we would be able to use
the facility for meetings and also be able to store any of our IH equipment in the building as long
as it was cleaned before putting it in the building.
The board recommended donating $1000.00 to the Building Fund in the fall. There was some
discussion about the donation but no motion was made at the time by the members.
Auction Committee
Winona will contact members out of the local area about donations. If anyone knows
someone that would like to donate an item please contact Winona.
There was discussion about the time of the auction. It was scheduled for 5:00 P.M. Saturday.
Because of the tractor pull in another area of the fairgrounds is scheduled for 6:00 P.M. some
members felt the time for the auction should be changed to an earlier time to have more
participation at the auction. Tyrone contacted Tom Weaver to see if an earlier time was okay
with him. He said anytime was okay with him. He thought an earlier time would benefit the
auction. Roger Baker made a motion to have the auction at 2:00 P.M. instead of 5:00 P.M. on
Saturday. It was seconded by Bobby Menefee. The motion was approved.
There was discussion about the Winter Convention. Tinker and Bill were in North Carolina
talking to one of the NC Chapters about this. Tinker reported by phone that the cost for the
week would be approximately $1000.00. The members at the meeting were not interested with
helping at the convention, but possibly helping with the auction. The club said they would like to
have more information.
A Farmall Super A with a woods mower was donated to our club. There was some discussion
about what to do with the tractor. There will be more discussion later.
Berryville has a corn sheller that they may donate to the club.
As there was no other business a motion was made by Jerry McDonald to adjourn. It was
seconded by Winona Scott. The motion was approved.

Club Meeting Minutes – February 12, 2017

IHCC 41 Business Meeting, February 12, 2017
The meeting was called to order by Tinker.
The Board Minutes were read and the following corrections were made:
The meeting in North Carolina on April 8,2017 about a Winter Convention will be with all of the
North Carolina Chapters.
The cost for the use of the main building for a Winter Convention is per day/ $1255.00 plus
$350.00 for heat.
A motion was made to accept the minutes with the corrections. It was seconded and approved.
The Treasurer’s Report was given. There is $3730.60 in the account. The Club gave $200.00
to Cross Keys Worship Center for the use of their building for our meetings and $25.00 was paid
to the State Corporation Commission for renewal.
New Business:
The Club will be getting Steiner Catalogs for our Summer Show.
Winter Convention: There is a possibility of getting the Maryland Chapter involved with the NC
Chapters and our Chapter.
Dick Forrester noted that it would be much easier to do a Winter Convention than a Red
Tinker asked if the club would pay for the gas for the trip to North Carolina on April 8,2017 to
discuss a Winter Convention. A motion was made to pay for the gas. It was seconded and
There was no report on Relay for Life except to note the date and time: May 6, 2017 from 6:00
P.M. until 6:00 A.M..
There will be a Relay for Life table set up at the Toy Show in Weyers Cave, Virginia.
Summer Show:
Set up for the vendors will be Thursday evening, June 22,2017, after 5:30 P.M. or Friday, June
23, 2017, beginning at 7:00 A.M..
Outside vendors: Tyrone has talked to vendors that participated last year. If anyone has a new
vendor they would like to include, give the name to him and he will be glad to
Advertising: No report at this time.
Set Up: No report at this time.
Auction: Winona will gladly accept all the help she can get. Please think about this, as it is a
very large undertaking.
Food: Tinker said Horn’s Ice Cream and J & J’s Bar B Que will be there. He has not talked to
Kettle Korn yet. If anyone has another food vendor in mind please let Tinker know.
T-Shirts: Tinker has been in contact with Jim Roberts of AMOS Apparel of Orange, Virginia.
They would do the shirts and the Club would not have any money tied up. If they come to the
show to sell the shirts, the Club would get 20% of the sales. If the Club handled the shirt sales,
we would get 25% of the sales. Tinker passed around a picture with the IHC logo in the center
of the shirt with other IH products around it. This was a tentative design.
Tyrone made a motion that we try this option for this year. It was seconded and approved.
We will not do Show Hats for this year.
Show Plaque:
There was discussion about putting the IH 684 tractor, donated to the McCormick Farm in
Raphine, Virginia, on our plaque for this year. A motion was made to use this tractor. It was
seconded and approved.
Tinker noted again that the State Corporation Commission had been paid.
Tinker said that the Club might have to have someone else take the Trailer to Berryville and
Somerset. He did this last year but is not sure if he will be able to do it this year. Please be
thinking about this.
Bill is checking on insurance for the contents of the Trailer. It might cost up to $300.00 per year.
The coverage would be checked by Mr. Forrester, the National Attorney, before being

The Club will do the BBQ sandwiches on April 8, 2017, beginning at 8:30 A.M. followed by the
monthly meeting at 1:00 P.M.. Jennifer needs to have the orders by April 2, 2017. The cost of
the sandwiches will be $3.50.
Letter to Exhibitors:
Winona read the letter to exhibitors. Because of the National Insurance Policy for all IHC
Chapters, to exhibit at our Summer Show you must be an IHC member. After the letter was
read, Mr. Forrester, the IHC National Attorney, did a presentation about the insurance coverage
for all IHC Chapters. The presentation was very informative and covered all aspects of the
insurance clauses. The National Policy covers all IHC members at all IHC sanctioned events It
was “stressed” that only IHC members at club sanctioned events were covered.
Mr. Forrester also did a presentation about a Collector’s Policy and how it differed from farm
policies and homeowner policies.
After these presentations , there was discussion about the letter to exhibitors. A motion was
made to send the letter to exhibitors that registered at last year’s Show but were not members
of IHC. It was seconded and approved.
The club discussed how to address people that came to the Show and wanted to exhibit but
had not received the letter concerning insurance regulations The Club decided that this would
be handled at the Registration Table.
As there was no other business, a motion was made to adjourn. It was seconded and

December club meeting minutes

IHCCof VA Meeting, December 11, 2016

The meeting was called to order by Steve Kegley.

A message from the President, Tinker Moats, was read by Jennifer congratulating the club on a

very good year.

Copies of the Minutes from the October Meeting were passed out for the members to look at.

An overview was given by the Secretary, Cynthia Shaver. A motion was made to approve the

minutes as presented. It was seconded and approved.

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Jennifer Puffenbarger. The balance in the checking

account is $4061.92. A motion was made to accept the report. It was seconded and approved.

The report for Relay for Life was given by Becky Seal. 132 pumpkin rolls were made and sold

which made $1050.00 for Relay for Life. The total for Relay for Life was $1400.00. Becky

noted that all donations for the Relay for Life Auction needed to be in to her or David by April 1,

2017. She has applications for anyone who would like to be on the Relay for Life Team.

New Business: There will be a tentative Schedule of Events in the Winter Newsletter.

There will be a Plow Day April 1, 2017 with a rain date of April 8, 2017. There will also be a Fall

Festival, October 14, 2017, at the Brent Fries farm in Timberville. More information on both of

these activities will be in the Winter Newsletter.

As sponsors for our Summer Show were invited to our meeting and dinner, we were happy to

recognize Highway Motors. We are very grateful for the support they give to our Summer Show.

Recognition was also given to new members at our meeting.

The IHC Club has been invited to attend a fair at the Yellow Barn at Shenandoah Caverns on

November 11, 2017.

At the end of the meeting Steve Kegley again noted that the Club had a good year.

As there was no other business, a motion was made to adjourn and begin our Christmas

Dinner. It was seconded and approved.

October 22, 2016 Meeting Minutes

IHCCofVA Meeting, October 22, 2016
The meeting was called to order by Tinker Moats.
The August Minutes were read and approved.
The August Board Minutes were read and approved. After the Board Minutes were read there
was further discussion concerning insurance dealing with sanctioned activities by the club. The
discussion concerned non-members participating in activities at the sanctioned shows.
According to our attorney, you must be a member in order to participate or show at the
sanctioned functions in order to be covered by the IHC National Policy. The club is waiting for a
letter from our attorney clarifying this policy.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Jennifer. The beginning balance is $3145.55. Roughly
$2600.00 will be added from the sale of sandwiches and $813.05 spent for the tenderloin
sandwiches will be subtracted. A motion was made to accept the report. It was seconded and
Old Business: Auction ; Winona asked once again if anyone would like to be in charge of the
Auction for next year. Please think about it and let her know. There is a lot of work involved
with identifying each item and preparing cards. The Auction Committee needs a lot of help to
set everything up. Winona has done a wonderful job with the auction but would like for
someone else do the job for a while. Please think about it and let her know if you would be
New Business: Newsletter: The club would like to do a Memorial for David “Mac” McAllister,
who passed away on September 16, 2016, in the Winter Newsletter. If anyone has anything
they would like to share about Mac, please let Winona know.
Relay for Life: Relay for Life will be May 5, 2016, starting at 6:00 P.M.
Donations for the Relay for Life Auction need to be given to Becky or David Seal by April
1,2017. The club donates 30% of the Auction money to Relay for Life. The amount this year
was a little over $1194.00. A motion was made to round that figure to $1200.00. It was
seconded and approved. The club will be listed as an associate on the back of the Relay for
Life T-Shirt as we donated more than $1000.00.
Becky reported that Relay for Life helps cancer patients in Rockingham County and
Harrisonburg. They have a list of organisations and individuals that they can call on if there is
some kind of special need that needs to be filled. A motion was made for the club to be added
to this list and put aside $200.00 to help if we are called on. It was seconded and approved.
Becky said to let her know if an individual would like to have their name put on the list as willing
to help if needed.
The Christmas Dinner will be the second Sunday in December (if that day is available) at Cross
Keys Worship Center. It will be a covered dish meal. Tyrone will provide the meat. The club
will provide drinks, plates and utensils.
Tyrone said he would invite all the vendors from our summer show to attend our dinner.
A review was done to see the amount that the club was donating to Cross Keys Worship Center
for letting us have our meetings and Christmas Dinner there. At the April Meeting in 2016 a
motion was made, seconded and approved to donate $200.00 to them at the Christmas Dinner.
As there was no other business, the meeting was adjourne



IMPORTANT! The OCTOBER MEETING will be held SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, following the sandwich making at around 1:00 p.m. at the Cross Keys Worship Center.

Club members will meet at 8:30 am on Saturday, October 22, at the Cross Keys Worship Center to make the sandwiches. Orders can be picked up starting at noon.
